Amorphous Graphite
We sell graphite (English: graphite), which is an allotrope of the carbon element. Commonly known as plumbago or black lead, it appears as a solid with thin, opaque crystal plates. It is soft, dark gray to black in color, and has a smooth texture. Graphite is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity. It is commonly used for making pencil leads, metal crucibles, certain lubricants, flashlight batteries, arc lamp electrodes, and as a moderator to control the number of neutrons in nuclear reactors.
Graphite has been utilized since 4000 BC for decorating ceramics in Southeastern Europe. A massive deposit of pure graphite, soft and easily breakable, was discovered in Cumbria, England. The deposit consists of tightly compressed graphite in its natural state.
